Coburg North is around 10 km north of Melbourne City Centre, close to Brunswick and Pascoe Vale. The suburb was built largely between the two world wars to meet housing demand as Melbourne expanded. It is a largely residential area with some commerce and industry, much of it connected with the car industry in some way. As a result, there is a local TAFE that focuses on teaching automotive skills. Local shops and services are found in the area around Bakers Road and Charles Street, and there are several small parks and reserves in providing green space.
